An ecosystem is a community of plants, animals and smaller organisms that live, feed, reproduce and interact in the same area or environment.

An ecosystem is a biological environment consisting of all the living organisms living in that particular area, together with all the non-living physical factors with which the organisms interact, such as air, soil, sunlight, temperature and water.

The living organisms found in an ecosystem are the biotic or biological components, while the non-living, physical factors are the abiotic components.

Therefore, an ecosytsem is a balanced interaction between the biotic and abiotic components. If a single factor is changed, perhaps by pollution or natural phenomenon, the whole system could be altered.
