The Maltese Everlasting

Picture
In Maltese it is referred to as Sempreviva ta' Għawdex, because as its name implies, it is found mostly in Gozo.  It has probably become extinct in Malta.  Its natural habitat are the cliffs.

When it grows, it forms a bush about 100 cm high.  Its leaves are whitish, with several tiny, silvery hairs.  The hairs protect the leaves from the heavy winds and summer droughts, in that they prevent them from drying up.  The leaves appear green when wet, but are silvery when dry.  The plant flowers from March to June.
