The Branched Asphodel

The Branched Asphodel (Berwieq in Maltese) is another very common flower, that can be found in steppe and arid rocky areas.

The flowers may be observed from December up to May.  It has robust stems that can reach a height of 150 cms.  The stems are capable of carrying large numbers of flowers.

The Branched Asphodel is host to a particular beetle - the Longhorn Beetle.  It is usually found on the stem of the plant in late March and early April.
