The Boar Thistle
The Boar Thistle (Xewk Abjad in Maltese) is a common annual plant, found throughout the Mediterranean region. This is the commonest species of thistle found in the Maltese Islands.
Its stems may reach a height of around 65 cm. Flower heads in Malta remain white, and may be found solitary or in clusters. It flowers between March and June.
It grows everywhere, but prefers disturbed ground.
