The Insect with the Smallest Heart



Fairyflies are tiny wasps, usually less than 0.2 mm long.  Fairyfly females are usually larger than the males, and are also better at flying than the males.

Insects have simple hearts.  They consist of a narrow tube found along the insects' back, pumping blood towards their head.  This helps to circulates liquids in an open system without the need of arteries and veins.
